HOW TO FIX WAN MINIPORT PPPOE ERROR ?

wan miniport pppoe Error
While trying to connect my friends new laptop to my wifi modem, I encountered some strange error messages:

Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)…
Error 651: The modem has reported an error.

“Error Connecting to Verizon Online…
Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
Error 678: The remote computer did not respond ”

Try these methods to fix this problem

1. Unplug your modem's power cable and Ethernet cable. Wait for at least two minutes and plug both cables back in to the ports on the back of the modem. If you use a wired Internet connection, also disconnect the network cable from your computer and immediately reconnect it.

2. Access the "Start" menu and select "Run." Type "ncpa.cpl" in the text box and hit "Enter." Right-click the icon for your network connection and choose "Enable" if the option is listed. If the "Disable" option is listed, do not click any of the options.

3. Close the window and return to the "Run" option in the "Start" menu. Enter "sysdm.cpl" in the text box and hit "Enter." Select "Hardware" and navigate to "Device Manager."

4. Select the "Network Adapters" entry and right-click the name of your computer's network adapter. Choose "Uninstall" and click "OK" and "Yes." Wait 10 seconds and click the "Action" button at the top of the window.

5. Choose the "Scan for hardware changes" option. Click "Next" and "OK" to reinstall the network adapter. Right-click the adapter's entry and choose "Update Driver." Click "Search Automatically" and choose "Next" and "Finish."

6. Open a Web browser and attempt to access the Internet. If the problem persists, return to the "Start" menu and click "Run." Type "netsh winsock reset" in the text box and hit "Enter." Restart Windows XP.
